Williamsburg CDSS Centennial Celebration

CDSS centennial celebration

In 2015, Country Dance and Song Society (CDSS) turned 100!  To help celebrate a century of country song and dance in America and “Spread the Joy,” the Williamsburg Heritage Dancers co-sponsored a day of dance at the historic Norge Community Center on September 5, 2015.

We enjoyed English Country Dancing from 2-5pm, with music by Go Figure (Janet Muse on keyboard and Mike Dunn on violin).  Members of Drunken Weasel Border Morris provided a demonstration and a chance to try morris dancing during the afternoon refreshment break.  In the evening, the Friends of Appalachian Music hosted their monthly contra dance from 7:30-10:30pm.

The English dance program included: Alice, Bonny Cuckoo, Bonny Grey-Ey’d Morn, Childgrove, The Fine Companion, Jack’s Maggot, Juice of Barley, Key to the Cellar, Miss DeJersey’s Memorial, Mount Hills, Nottingham Swing, Six for the Six Proud Walkers, Softly Good Tummas, Trip to Town-O, and Turning by Threes.

This event was a CDSS Passport to Joy destination!
